AT THE AIRPORT (3) TRAVEL VOCABULARY 

AT THE CHECK-IN:

Attendant:  Can I see your ticket and passport please?
Passenger:  Sure. Here you are.

Attendant: How many bags are you checking in?
Passenger: Two. Do I need to check this bag in or can I take it on board as hand luggage?
Attendant: You can take it on board with you; however, your checked bags are overweight.     
                  There is a charge $20.00 for excess weight.
Passenger:  Not a problem.

Attendant: Would you like a window or aisle seat?
Passenger: Aisle seat please.

Attendant: Here is your boarding pass. Enjoy your flight!

SECURITY CHECK:

Security Officer: Can I see your boarding pass and passport please?
Passenger:           Sure.

Security Officer:  Do you have any liquids or sharp objects in your hand luggage?
Passenger:            No.

Security Officer: Could you put your bag and any metal objects including your belt
                             in the  tray to be x-rayed please.
Passenger:            As well as my computer?
Security Officer:  Yes. Can you remove it from its case please?      
                             Thank you.  
                             You can now walk through the metal detector.     

THE DEPARTURE LOUNGE:

Gate Attendant:  Good afternoon passengers flying on Lan Chile flight 801 to Auckland,
                            New Zealand. We would like to advise that boarding will
                            commence via Gate 3 in approximately 10 minutes. Please ensure you
                            have your boarding pass and passport in hand.

Gate Attendant: Good afternoon, passengers flying on flight Lan 801 to Auckland,  
                           New  Zealand. We would like to advise that boarding will now  
                           commence via Gate 3. First to board will be those holding executive
                           class tickets, those with special needs and families with small
                           children. Please ensure you have your boarding pass and
                           passport are in hand.

Gate Attendant: Good afternoon, passengers on flight Lan 801 to Auckland,  
                           New Zealand. We would like to advise that passengers holding  
                           boarding passes for rows 7 to 31 may now board your flight via
                           Gate 3.

Gate Attendant:  Passengers flying on flight Lan Chile 801 to Auckland, New Zealand.   
                           holding boarding passes for rows 32 to 64 may now board your                  
                           flight via Gate 3.

Gate Attendant: All remaining passengers on flight Lan Chile 801 to Auckland, New
                           Zealand may now board your flight via Gate 3.     

Gate Attendant:  Last call for any remaining passenger for flight Lan Chile 801 to Auckland,
                           New Zealand.

ON BOARD THE PLANE:
Flight Attendant: Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Welcome aboard flight Lan            
                             Chile 801 to Auckland, New Zealand. In a few minutes, we will be                   
                             taking off. Please place any hand luggage in the overhead lockers, secure
                             your tray and put your seat in the upright position. Please also ensure
                             your seat  belt is securely fastened. Thank you.

The pilot:           Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is Captain Smith and on
                           behalf of myself and the crew I would like to welcome you aboard
                           this  Lan Chile flight 801 to Auckland New Zealand. In a few moments we
                           will be doing “push back”. Please ensure your seat is in its upright  
                           position, your tray is safely secured and your seat belt is tightly
                           fastened.  Please watch the safety video now being screened and then read
                           the safety card found in the seat pocket in front of you. Thank you.

The pilot:           Crew arm the doors please!

AFTER TAKEOFF

The pilot:           This is Captain Smith speaking. Soon we will reach our
                           cruising altitude of 39,000 feet. Flight time to Auckland is estimated to be
                           13 hours and 50  minutes and we are expecting calm conditions all the
                           way. When the seat belt sign is turned off please feel free to move about
                           the aircraft. On behalf of your captain and your crew and we wish a            
                           pleasant and comfortable flight Thank you!




NEARING AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

The pilot:           Good morning ladies and gentlemen! In approximately forty minutes we
                           will be beginning our descent into Auckland. In Auckland it is currently
                           fine, 17ยบ C with a light 10 knot northerly wind blowing.  It is Tuesday and
                           the local time is 4am.

The pilot:           This is your captain speaking. In a few moments we will be beginning our
                           decent into Auckland. I hope you have enjoyed your flight and on behalf
                           of myself and the crew I would like to thank you for flying with Lan Chile
                           and hope to see you again soon!

Flight Attendant:  Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Could you please return to your  
                            seats.  Please also ensure your seat belt is securely fastened and your seat
                            is in the upright position.  Thank you.

The pilot:              Crew take your seats for landing please!

Flight Attendant:  I would like to remind passengers to stay in their seats until the aircraft
                              has come to a complete standstill and the Fasten Seatbelt sign has been
                              switched off. Thank you.

Flight Attendant:  Welcome to Auckland. Please check you have collected all your
                              belongings before you leave the aircraft. On behalf of
                              the captain and the the crew we would like to thank you for flying
                              with Lan Chile and we hope to see you again soon!

Immigration Officer:  Good morning sir. Can I see your passport please?
Passenger:   Certainly.

Immigration Officer:  Did you understand everything on the immigration form?
Passenger:    Yes

Immigration Officer:  How long do you plan to stay in New Zealand?
Passenger:    Three weeks

Immigration Officer:  Have you visited or stayed on a farm in the last three weeks?
Passenger:    No.

Immigration Officer: Have you been camping or carrying any camping equipment with
                                   you?
Passenger:    No.

Immigration Officer: Ok. Thank you. Welcome to New Zealand!
